I have been trying to figure out the safest possible blasting cap primary that can be used (as in figuring out I mean combing forums and other
sources), so I will list what I have so far.
TATP: Too sensitive, too dangerous
HMTD: Can react with metal caps, unstable over time
Mercury Fulminate: No
So would I be correct in saying that Lead azide is the 'safest' primary that can be used in a cap, followed up with a secondary of PETN?
Also, if the cap is plastic, would HMTD become more of an option?

HMTD is as dangerous as TATP. Silver acetylide is a good option if lead azide toxicity is a concern.Metacelsus - 27-9-2016 at 18:37
You should include SADS in your list.
Edit: Ninja'd!

Properly made SADS and PETN (with 5-10%) wax.
Or SADS with TACP (3% wax)Camroc37 - 27-9-2016 at 19:03
I forgot about SADS, probably because I have consistently failed st making Copper Acetylide. I don't know why, but I can never get it to detonate.
It'll barely even burn. I'm sure if I did it now I might get it right, but it may be easier to make Lead Azide (If I can make/buy Sodium Azide, that
is). I'll put this one in my notes. Am I right in assuming the PETN and wax where cast together, and the SADS was pressed on top?OneEyedPyro - 27-9-2016 at 23:07
Lead azide is actually very impact/friction sensitive, significantly more so than even TATP by my crude tests! I suspect mine may have had larger than
desirable crystal size. It's not especially safe to handle by my assessment. And who likes messing around with soluble lead compounds?
SADS seems very well behaved for a primary. DDNP is supposed to be excellent but I've never made it.
I believe Cu acetylide is moisture sensitive and immediately needs to be vacuum filtered then washed with anhydrous alcohol after synthesizing.greenlight - 28-9-2016 at 00:08
When I made lead azide I noticed that it was more sensitive than TATP that I compared it to as well.
I even used a overhead stirrer to ensure the smallest crystal size possible.
I have since brought some PVA crystals to add next time hoping that when the final product is coated it will be better behaved. Same would go for
dextrinated LA I suppose.
I am pretty sure commercial caps contain lead azide so it can't be too bad.

Lead azide is in today times in detonators, basically this worst energetic primary material. For amateur use. However, meets Abel test long time
stability at high temperature. It is important for use as professional goods. This parameter is maximal important for use as goods. For amateur use,
is most important low sensitive and nontoxic. Lead Azide is pretty sensitive on friction and his point of ignition is over 300 Celsius. Lead Azide is
basically pretty shit material, especially for amateur using. HMTD and 3A3P is of course still worse. Thus, I have same opinion, best for amateur use
is Silver acetylide double salt, SADS. However his price, respectively Silver nirate as precursor is expensive. Or can be expensive. But it is best a
way for amateur deminers. Because SADS not needed thick closure as in system Berta. System Berta detonators, is thus second best system for full
detonation for amateur use. Dr.Lotilko - 28-9-2016 at 05:36
Your best bet would be xenon trioxide. Not the safest, but one of the most powerful. hissingnoise - 28-9-2016 at 05:46
Indeed. Anyone with at least a spark of common sense would know that.

I forgot DDNP as OneEyedPyro said, p-DDNP is easily done from paracetamol and is a nice synth because you can see the colour changing in every step.
Is a safe primary, but you need at least 300 mg to be sure you get a detonation.
Lead picrate is also easy to synth but pretty shitty IMHO.

Since you seem prone to make asinine statements, I had to check!

I doubt you even know what Xenon trioxide is?
No offense man, but can't you appreciate the joke? I know what Xenon trioxide
is, I wouldn't have mentioned it otherwise.Laboratory of Liptakov - 28-9-2016 at 10:47
Let Christians with compassion. Was it only short joke. Much worse are long questions and a lot of nonsense to 30 lines of text. ......Dr.
