It's for a down's cell I'm building, but I'm having trouble finding a site that you can order them from without being a big company and buying 500 at
a time!!!

How about "electric furnace" or "kiln".
Probably a standard coiled element type hot plate will work if you add refractory insulation -- mineral wool might work, if not, a kaowool or similar
high-temp product.

Well I know what I need, I just don't know where to get it; like a recommendation to a site or supplier is what I'm looking for

Sorry, nothing offhand. I would build it.

Well ya I am going to build the entire down's cell from scratch, but its frusterating that I can't find a place that will sell me just a simple high
temp heating element

Oh, element? Just about any will do, they're made to glow red.

But you don't find one that gets above 800 C and is at least a foot across on just any kitchen stove or hardware store

Did you search and read (or scan) the threads on furnace building?
b_d_Dom - 28-10-2006 at 18:07
I am not interested in building the furnace part myself, I'm going to make the entire downs cell from scratch so I would like to have at least one
part of it I know I can count on and can use to base the rest of my design on.

I am not aware of any household electric hotplates designed for 800C. The company that makes "Calrod" elements will custom make elements, IIRC.
b_d_Dom - 28-10-2006 at 18:45
Do you know if this company will sell and ship privately to an individual? I have found a number of them already that make the parts but only do
custom or industrial requests.

No. I don't even remember which website I was on.
Here's one: http://www.wenesco.com/hotplates.htm
I think you're on the right track. Just keep searching and asking questions to find a suitable vendor. I'll be surprised if it won't be expensive,
however.

Wow they are selling like the appex of all hotplates there! I don't even need one that advanced. I could settle for just a raw element and build the
power regualtor, but it would be cool to have one of those....I'll have to think about it.
Thanks for the site
