As part of a job lot of used glassware I have a claisen-flask with a (presumed) vacuum jacket where you often find a mini-vigreaux column.
I can't get to it at the moment so a Paint sketch
is there a specific temperature range where this is useful ?

Likely an area that could be filled with saddles, helices, etc, to make a packed column.

Heat can only be lost through a vacuum through radiation. Thus it stops heat loss through conduction and convection. It's basically insulating that
part of the glassware, similar to how a vacuum thermos works.
