can acetone peroxide oxidize acetone to pyruvic and acetol

madscience - 6-7-2016 at 10:48

If so would that happen at room temperature

Baeyer and Villiger, at one time, used TATP as oxidiser for the reaction but the handling of TATP will always be extremely hazardous!

All in all, its use as oxidant shouldn't be considered unless a Darwin Award is a goal...

Yeah, what hissingnoise said. Acetone peroxide will form a trimer called triacetone peroxide (TATP) that is quite unstable and energetic. It's really not safe to use as a reagent.
