I would like to know if there is any practical method of producing longer-chain alcohols, particularly iso-alcohols (Isobutanol ,isoamyl, etc). So far,
the only viable production method I have in mind is a Grignard reaction using formaldehyde and an isoalkyl magnesium halide and repeating until the
desired alcohol is produced. For longer chain iso-alcohols, that would be rather inefficient.
Is there any better way of making iso-amyl and other longer-chain iso-alcohols?
