How to build a Fiber network server at home?

lightingjack - 16-5-2016 at 08:05

I have google fiber. I use 2 PC to do some data mining, it is for research purpose no bitcoin stuff.

I thoughts of building a rack with fiber optic connections to improve my performance.

I have scout some forums for information, I was just wonder if somebody got a similar idea and would share his thoughts

This is basic networking really, not science as such.

Just get a fibre router and hook your machines up with giba-bit ethernet.

(doubt you got > 1000Mbps connection)

One of these would work, although you'll need the correct SFP module for the fibre connection.

Just buy that mikrotik, an SFP module and two gigabit ethernet cables and the job is done.

The only further resarch to do is How to configure a Mikrotik router.

It is basically a router.

The fact that Fibre is involved does not make it significantly more complex to configure.

Whatever you decide to buy, you just need a router.

Trying to push fibre speeds over Wireless instead of Fibre or Gig-Ethernet cables would be like buying a Ferrari and filling the petrol tank with water - i.e. stupid.
