Today i got about 1 kg DAP and i was thinking to convert it into NH4NO3 but there are some problems and confusion
1 DAP is impure may be the impurity is a binder ,so how can i separate that impurity and
2 is it possible to make NH4NO3 by directly adding HNO3 to DAP , if yes then how can i separate NH4NO3 from H3PO4 or should i first make ammonia from
DAP and than pass it through HNO3.

Dont add nitric acid to DAP solution. Buy ammonium nitrate or calciumammonium nitrate. Both is fertiliser. You can it dissolving in hot water filter
and concentrate to get the cristaline AN.

DAP + calcium chloride in water will yield calcium phosphate as a precipitate.
Ammonium Chloride + Nitric acid will yield ammonium nitrate and off gas hydrogen chloride.
Calcium nitrate + DAP would yield a direct route.

Firstly if i can get NH4NO3 from market why would i try to convert DAP to NH4NO3. In my region only 2 fertilizers are easily available DAP and urea.
And is there any way to purify DAP?

DAP isn't a pure product is manufactured from phosphate rock so contains various impurities and contaminants
If you can get Urea and DAP you can also get CAN is my bet, extract the AN from the CAN

there only 2 fertiliers available here i searched for other fertilizers in market but got nothing. therefor finally i decided to get DAP and now i
want to know how to purify it.

quite frankly I don't believe that. where is "here".
your region is missing an important macro element (two or three if you count S and Ca) if you can only get Urea and DAP.

i am trying to make NH4NO3 from DAP and i am not trying to extract NH4NO3 on a large scale .i am conducting it on an experimental scale .so i just
want to now the correct method to do so.
well i had added some HNO3 to DAP few days ago and now water from the mixture is evaporated and some needle like crystals has appeared is that NH4NO3?

Your crystals still partial DAP. HNO3 boiled mainly off . You have options:
-Buy household ammonia and neutralize with diluted HNO3
- Heat urea in oil bath over 130 degree and the liberated ammonia lead in very diluted and chilled HNO3 then evaporate to get your crystals
-do this what macckone wrote
Do you from US? Because in Europe there are plenty CAN.

Would NH4Cl also decompose on heating to NH3 and HCl? This might be easier to get
idrbur - 19-5-2016 at 08:35
I will try to neutralize HNO3 with NH3.
NH4Cl will doesn't decomposes on heating.
And yes i'm from india.
Thanks everyone for your suggestions.
