Hello SM community. Let me get strait to the point. I have been working on the synthesis of Naphthol based hydroxamic acids. Unfortunately my research
proposal was not accepted due to lack of funding.
Anyway, because of my background in home chemistry, I would like to show the university system what home chemists are truly capable of!
The starting point of my synthesis is a molecule called BON acid, IUPAC name: 3-Hydroxy-2-naphthoic acid(see figure).
This molecule seems to be used extensively in dye manufacturing. I have been digging on the internet for a while and I can not seem to be able to find
a supplier (that is a supplier which would ship to a residential address).
I next thought of making it form a dye but most dyes with this compound in it are specialty biological stains and seem to be even harder to source
than BON acid itself!
I would need about 500g of it but could probably get away with 100g. Does anybody have any suggestions? Thanks in advanced!

TCI sells 500 g of it for $43, not likely to sell to individuals. But a google search of the cas number, "92-70-6" finds some chinese vendors and
other sources. If you have any local contacts at a university, they can likely order it easily, but if you look enough, you may well find a source
that will sell it directly to you. It is a common chemical in the dye world, and not a regulated chemical as best as I can see.
