dark pictures

Is it just me or does there seem to be a lot of dark pictures being posted? I have to transfer them to my desktop and then brighten them in order to view them.

This task should be done by the OP before posting, IMO. After all the purpose of posting them is to communicate with the readers, right? ;)

I have started doing this with all my pictures that look too dark.

My screens are always at full dimness, and I haven't had a problem. Speaking of photos, I'd be interested to see some more photos in the what do you look like thread.

The images look fine to me. Would suggest making sure your monitor is correctly calibrated; you wouldn't believe the difference.

No, I'm referring to pictures taken with a home camera. Many are so dark I can't make out the picture. See my pictures here for examples:

These were taken before I started increasing their brightness before posting them.

I don't know man, those all look great to me. They don't seem the least bit dark.

OK, thanks. It must be my aging monitor then. I had noticed that the pictures look much brighter on my new iPad.

Yes, I love old CRTs, but I think the old, square, very heavy LED monitors are nice too, just not so large, and seem to be longer-lasting. Look nice with my raspberry pi in the lab :)

BTW: I think I became far sighted using CRT. Maybe it just age..;^)

The photo's look good to me also.

Old CRTs don't die ... they just fade away.

could be the crt is going, if you can get sharp focus then probably ok but the cathode emission does decrease over time.
There is a procedure for rejuvenating the cathode which involves stripping the cathode a little,
but I would treat this as a good justification/excuse for a new monitor ... or computer :D

My whole world changed imperceptibly slowly towards sepia due to cateracts.
After having both lenses replaced last year, the world has changed to technicolour HD.
Have you had an eye test recently ?


A similar effect is often observed after a crt is cleaned :P
(especially if like me you are a smoker)

These pictures look fine to me and certainly do not need postprocessing to make them brighter.

How do other websites look like on your monitor?

Some are quite dark. I'm convinced now that it is the fault of the CRT. As Sulaiman said it has just slowly faded away.

I could likely use a new computer also. I tend not to replace things until they don't perform.
