All it takes is some water. You dissolve NaCl in water and you have Na+ and Cl- safely surrounded by H2O molecules. Compared to covalent bonds, ionic
interactions are quite weak bonds (if they can be called bonds at all!).
Na+ is not a base and Cl- is not an acid, actually the chloride anion is a very weak base. Read on acids and bases first. |
