COAL TAR

idrbur - 8-8-2015 at 05:27

Hi,
I read somewhere on internet about composition of coal tar and about the hydrocarbons extracted from it.
So i want to know that how can i extract those useful hydrocarbons from coal tar (especialy toluene).
Thanks in advance.

-Separative distillation
-Chromatography
or/and
-Specific adducts
or
-Derivativatization

comes to mind.

Can you plz tell me the name of the compounds that are extracted by these process. Write the name of the compound on the right side of the process.

Coal tar is very complex and contains hundreds of compounds. It's not like you run one of the extraction methods and isolate one single compound. You'll get a slew of similar compounds that you'll need to purify further. For instance, you may use a method that extracts toluene, but it will also bring xylene and who knows what else with it. Then you'll have to fractionally distill it multiple times and understand what it is you're looking at. It's not as elementary as you seem to be envisioning it.

And for the record, all of these spoonfeeding requests from you make me want to gag

Toluene is best extracted from a Toluene Supplier by reacting them with the $ that they ask.

The Gibbs Free Postage rule does not normally apply, especially with ebay.

Coal tar was the primordial soup of chemical derivatives, many things originated from it.
