Hydrogen peroxide + Lugols iodine

Just because they were in use and I was curious
I put three drops of 9% lugols iodine in 6ml of 35% hydrogen peroxide

The iodine drops lost colour very quickly
After a few seconds large volumes of oxygen (tested) were released by the mixture
Which became so hot that I added water to calm down the reaction.

The lugols iodine I made some time ago, 9g iodine per 100ml with 18g potassium iodide.

I assume that the iodine was rapidly converted to iodide hence loss of colour
But why did the reaction become so vigorous after that?
Could someone tell me what was going on?

Iodide catalyzes decomposition of hydrogen peroxide.
