The starting material is leftover labgrade "phenylpropanolamine hcl" from the PPA bann a few years back supposedly used in a unknown brand of
bodybuilding pills that was discontinued.
When reduced as is via red phosphorus/Hydriodic acid the amine smell is present but 0 yeild after seporation.
When used as is in the sodium cyanate rought to 4methylaminorex same thing happens the smells and sights are proper but nothing to precipitate in the
end.
When used as is in the permaginate oxidation it seems to work fine in forming methcathinone
Rhodium suggested to boil the ppa in hydrochloric acid to turn half of the ppa into the desired material so this was done and ended up with pretty low
yeilds in the top 2 reactions of a inactive compound.
Anyone have a clue what isomer this could be and any suggestions on how to make it usefull???
Next trial will reflux the ppa in hcl for use in the oxidation to compare the methcathinone potency to the first try.
How much 32% hcl would be needed for 10grams of ppa and what would be the optimum time/temp???

When refluxed in a small amount of hcl a strong sulpher smell is noticed.
