Sodium is a very hard to come by substance nowadays, but lithium can still be had in batteries...
Can it be substituted for sodium when drying ether?

It can probably be substituted, not speaking from experience though. There is an off hand chance that some of the lithium may cleave the ether, but
not enough to notice, usually it takes the Na/K alloy to attack the ether linkage appreciably.
