we made dipyridineiodine(I) nitrate yesterday in lab
basically, we reacted Iodine in presence of AgNO3, Pyridine. and formd iodine(I) cation and iodide ion.
and the cation is stablized by dipyridine, ion binds to Ag+.
but I dont understand how iodine(I) cation formed?
please help!

The silver ion causes the I2 to disproportionate into I- (which precipitates as AgI) and I+ (which is stabilized by the pyridine).
