Does anyone know the exact reaction conditions ( proportion of reactants, conc of acid, eq of Zn, etc ) and especially yields for the above to reduce
an aliphatic primary halide ( R-Cl ) to its alkane ?
Though there is a lot of mention of this reaction on the web, there are absolutely no detailed reaction conditions given anywhere. Have checked far
and wide, just got one ref that gave a measly yield of 12%.
How about using Aluminum with acid for such reductions ? There is no mention of this anywhere.......

I know the zinc-copper couple will do it, but I've never heard of just plain zinc being used.
