Cash prizes for new chemistry sets. The competition is a project from the publishers of Science News. From the about page:
Quote:

The Science Play and Research Kit (SPARK) competition challenges participants to reimagine the chemistry set for the 21st century and generate a new set of experiences and activities that encourage imagination and interest in science, recapturing the spirit of the chemistry set.

Too bad I'm not 18 yet. I wonder if the kit has to be lawyer-friendly.

There's an age requirement? Darn. I had this great idea for a computerized, interactive chemistry set (where you would have some glassware, reagents, gloves and goggles, a scale, keyboard and a computer screen) that helped you do all the stoichiometry, yield, etc. It'd hopefully sell for something like $100, but initial sales would probably be much higher. It would all fit into a large briefcase-sized container, too.
