Hello! I am new to the forum and would like some help with setting up a lab. I am interested in organic chemistry and I would like further my interest
by doing some hands-on experimenting. I would like opinions on what types of glassware, equipment, and chemicals I will need to do a large amount of
experiments. Any help is appreciated!

One of the most important equipment purchases will be an accurate balance so that you can use the minimum amount of chemicals possible and still have
good results. I t will also minimize the damage to the environment and help with disposal of waste.

Okay, should I be looking for a mechanical or digital scale and what would I need to spend to get one of decent quality?

The type of scale is not really important. Buy one with 0.01 gram resolution or better. Max resolution is more important than max weight. You can
purchase them off eBay for decent prices (a few tens of euros).
I have written a page on starting a home lab and on choosing a nice initial set of chemicals, which allows you to do a lot of experiments. The page is
geared towards inorganic chemistry. If you want to do organic chemistry, then things will be different. You then need more glassware and quite
different chemicals.
