K[Au(CN)2] -> KCN

Carharttguy - 30-9-2013 at 07:14

Hello

I guess the title says a lot. I want to extract KCN from K[Au(CN)2]. KCN is hard to get in some regions. K[Au(CN)2] is a lot easier.

I don't find a lot on the internet about this topic. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks!

Are you high? Do you know how expensive gold salts are‽ Disregarding whether or not the chemistry would work, there are much much easier ways to synthesize KCN. Start with a forum <img src="./images/xpblue/top_search.gif" /> <a href="search.php">Search</a> then a <a href="http://scholar.google.com/" target="_blank">literature search</a> <img src="../scipics/_ext.png" />.

What is your interest in KCN? You have only two posts, and haven't really displayed genuine interest in the science of chemistry. Sorry for jumping to conclusions, but if you're looking to commit suicide, KCN is neither effective nor humane. If you're looking to poison another living creature; don't.

Hello bfesser,

Thanks for your answer.

If I would to commit suicide, I could just use K[Au(CN)2]. Will kill me as good as KCN.
I don't want to kill another living creature. But I certainly understand your concerns.
I didn't express myself very well. Getting KCN isn't the main goal of my question. I'm more interested in the question "Is it possible, and if yes, how?!"

I'm indeed not active on sciencemadness, because my English isn't of a very high level. I'm more active on a Dutch forum.

Hope to informed you enough
Thanks!

Edit: I'm sober! Haha. It would be nice just to get KCN and Au seperated!

potassium gold cyanide, would you not..
sounds quite OTC??
even if you were to consider removal of yourself i'd advice nicotine as its much easier to get hold of, more potent and of what i recall even smaller LD40

do take this as a serious joke, tho

What is your source of K[Au(CN)2] - gold extraction?

No, online source.

Sorry for being cautious, and thanks for understanding. Hope this helps:

Particularly:
<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Merrill-Crowe_process" target="_blank">Merrill-Crowe Process</a> <img src="../scipics/_wiki.png" />

Note that these processes are intended for the recovery of gold, rather than isolation of purified KCN.
