NO2 from ammonia?

Toluene - 19-5-2013 at 13:04

Hello everyone!.

I was thinking of a source of nitrogen and I thought that ammonia could be one.

I've been reading about oxidising it with a cathalyst as CrO3, a platinum wire or even with Fe2O3, what do you think?

As you may guess, it's for nitric acid synthesis;)

PD: I'm not able to get nitrate salts yet

Thanks everyone and sorry for my bad english!

But you can get CrO3 and Fe2O3? This is likely not going to be an easy route to HNO3. No nitrate fertalizers or stump removers? Where abouts are you located. Nitrates are very common if you know where to luck.

No, I can't get CrO3 , Fe2O3 yes, anyway, I live in a small village in Spain, and I order almost all my chemicals to ebay (Quite expensive, btw) I'll ask for nitrate base fertilizers and see what they have

Thank for your response :)

Stump remover is a good, cheap source here in the USA. It is a very dry powder, and is very pure KNO3. You can order it online too. It is a cheap, and harmless commodity. Unrestricted in most juristictions, as long as your not ordering tons, or with other, very suspicious things.

I bought a 50lb bag of greenhouse grade at the farm store the other day for $60.00 plus tax.
