What's the price on a pound?

poonjabber7 - 13-1-2013 at 05:56

given the rise in value in the last 3 years right now the current price for a pound is 182.5 and the value is rising faster than gold but im willing to cut a deal for 1 lb ill do 145 dollars and 5 lbs for 620

Adas - 13-1-2013 at 05:57

Why does the mercury look solid? Am I trippin? :D

Pyro - 13-1-2013 at 06:18

that's too much! china offers 99,9% for 70USD/Kg for one kg. or 40USD/Kg if buying in bulk
30USD/lb would be more realistic (I think)

Endimion17 - 13-1-2013 at 06:46

I've always wanted to have a mercury brick.

(I suppose it's in bottles, inside boxes, but what to I know, right? :D)

barley81 - 13-1-2013 at 07:08

Where did you get the current mercury price?

poonjabber7 - 13-1-2013 at 07:39

ive estimated the price is an average of several websites ill post links when i get back or you can check for your self on any rare minerals / precious metal websites it has tripled in value in the last few years. and i know how much a flask of low grade (non) pure (non) 99.9% "shit" liquid mercury that you can order from india and china also take in the fact you cannot send via air delivery

sancho20 - 13-1-2013 at 07:54

i saw some on ebay sell for around that price..but i guess ebay doesnt allow the sale of it so im assuming so they let some slip through..one listing had 4 small viles and it sold for $170 and it looked like less than a pound.

Endimion17 - 13-1-2013 at 08:26

How are you going to ship it? Airmail? :D:D:D

sancho20 - 13-1-2013 at 09:57

i think you need a special liscence to ship airmail but i know ground shipping is permitted..

barley81 - 13-1-2013 at 10:04

Mercury is not permitted on airplanes because the mercury can amalgamate with the aluminum body of the airplane in the event of a leak. Then the airplane will oxidize/weaken and disaster can occur.

Though $75/lb sounds fair, who knows how much that flask of $45/kg Chinese mercury will cost after the customs broker or DHL/UPS import service (I imagine typical massive profit nevertheless at United Nuclear's $45/oz+ if they sell enough for them to buy a flask).

Mercury can go by domestic air cargo, just not by the USPS, who doesn't want it by ground either. Export from the US was banned altogether a couple weeks ago, one of few bills written by Sen. Obama to become law.

Maybe the $182.50 mercury is the liquid red mercury advertised by many at many of those trading sites, sometimes as Sb2O7Hg2, which is (as Hg2Sb2O7) not liquid and not necessarily red.

EDIT: DHL won't take mercury and UPS might not take a full flask.

It's $6.25/oz if you buy 4oz! That makes $100/lb.

Personally, I wouldn't buy from an unknown seller like poonjabber7 unless the deal was significantly better than that.

sancho20 - 13-1-2013 at 21:21

i checked out that website ...i think quality has alot to do with price ..the 6.50 a ounce is only distilled and it goes up to quadruple distilled..

sancho20 - 13-1-2013 at 22:21

http://www.sciencecompany.com/Mercury-Metal-quicksilver-3X-D... ...i guess his price is close

sancho20 - 14-1-2013 at 12:19

this is a good article about mercury..i bought a bunch of triple distilled mercury a while back because one of my buddies said it was a good investment and the price of it was gonna go up like crazy..it actually did ..but this acticle explains the difference in qualitys..im not sure what the higher grade mercury is used for but said it commands a premium.. http://www.enotes.com/mercury-reference/mercury-192066 .
