Selling some glassware

Lambda-Eyde - 27-11-2012 at 18:57

I need money for beer, so I'm selling off some of my glassware!

First off is a (used) Kimax organic chemistry labset (this one) in near perfect condition. The components have no significant defects and are pretty clean, though I'd recommend you clean them yourself before putting it to use! The only thing missing is an inlet tube without joints, but it is practically worthless. Also, the 50 mL RBF has some pencil writing inside the joint. Other than that, the set is in pristine condition. All joints are S/T 24/40, US sizes.

The set contains one of each:

50 mL round bottom flask
100 mL round bottom flask
200 mL round bottom flask
300 mL round bottom flask
500 mL round bottom flask
Distillation adapter, 75 degree bend
Receiving adapter with hose adapter and internal tube, 105 degree bend
Claisen adapter
300 mm West condenser
300 mm Liebig condenser with indents to support column packing
Thermometer/tubing adapter with rubber seal, fits 6-7 mm thermometers
Pennyhead stopper
125 mL addition funnel with two joints, pear shape

Pictures:

(The 200 mL RBF and stopper is not in these pictures, but is included)

And the set will be shipped in this handy styrofoam box, ideal for compact storage and shipping.

The flasks are very heavy walled, and the stopcock for the addition funnel is teflon. The thermometer adapter has a rubber seal that could use a replacement, but it is fully functional.

Shipping inside of Europe (excluding Greenland and the Faroe Isles) will be less than 60 USD/38 £/47 €, depending on the total weight of the package. Shipping to the rest of the world will be less than 113 USD/71 £/87 €. Yes, I know it is horribly expensive. But I'm not the one ripping you off, this is the consequence of living in a country with high cost levels. Shipping inside of Norway would of course be significantly cheaper. Edit: I would like to point out that these are the actual shipping costs. There's nothing extra added for "shipping and handling", packaging costs, gasoline for driving to the post office. I'm not profiting from the shipping costs. Anyone is welcome to check out Posten.no provided you understand the language or can have it translated.

I'm taking bids, starting at 150 USD/94 £/116 €.

Next up is a gem: a 400 mm jacketed coil condenser. The brand is Cirex (which I have never heard of), and the joints are S/T 19/26, European sizes. I'm not sure if it has been used or not, but it seems to be in perfect condition. Might be new old stock.

Pictures:

Shipping prices will be slightly less than for the labset, depending on the final weight.

Taking bids, starting at 70 USD/44 £/54 €.

Interested, very interested...

I'm intersted in the coil condenser if you have a pair of adapters so i can use it on my 29/32 set.

Lambda-Eyde - 30-11-2012 at 13:02

I don't have any adapters for sale, sorry. They can however be had on eBay (just checked) for reasonable prices.

Lambda-Eyde - 13-12-2012 at 07:15

Any takers? It's the shipping that's putting you off, isn't it? :P

Darkblade48 - 8-1-2013 at 21:17

Interested, but yes, the shipping to overseas is a bit much for my taste :(

Lambda-Eyde - 23-1-2013 at 17:51

Bump! Nothing is gone yet.

elementcollector1 - 23-1-2013 at 18:12

I totally would... but again, the geometric gap between where you live and where I live is putting me off. Plus, I already have a reasonable amount of ground glassware in 14/20 from good ol' Doc Bob, so would a 24/40 set be even useful to me?

Variscite - 29-5-2013 at 14:44

Gahh, I would totally buy it from you, the shippings crazy though! Haha

skeletal-clown - 30-5-2013 at 02:17

I would jump on this very quickly if I didn'y live on the other side of the world....

Hey, sorry for the late reply. Shipping inside of Scandinavia is unfortunately the same price as shipping inside of Europe. Roughly. These prices are half a year old, I don't know if the prices or the currencies have changed significantly.

If anyone are seriously interested feel free to drop me a U2U.

Also: I'm not open for haggling. The labset cost me 200 USD plus VAT and other fees. The total was something around 300 USD IIRC. I'm not selling with a profit, but I'm not willing to go any lower than the prices mentioned in the first post. And, as already mentioned - I'm not making up the shipping costs. Feel free to visit the link I posted above with Google Translate to check it yourself. :)

It might be helpful to potential buyers if you say exactly what you want for this stuff.

Over a week ago, I made you an offer via U2U for more than what you gave as your starting point for bids. You didn't bother to reply, so I guess you thought the offer insulting or something. But if someone says that the minimum they'll accept for something is 150USD, then a buyer would be pretty stupid too offer more.

What's more, if the seller comes back six months on from the initial offer to sell when the item still hasn't been sold and implies that the real minimum bid is 300USD, I have to wonder if they seriously want to sell.

Oh no, you're misunderstanding, and I can see why - English is not my native language and I was really tired when I wrote that reply...

Those numbers are just to illustrate - i.e. show how much I actually paid. When I said "I'm not willing to go any lower", I meant that I'm not willing to go any lower than the price given in my first post (which is excl. shipping). I see how confusing this can be, sorry...

Re: the rest of the post, I'll send you a U2U :)

Thank you for the clarification. I've sent you a U2U reply with a bid that I hope you'll find acceptable.
