Hello i need some help.. i´was trying to get hydroquinone from para dichlorobenzene, in one attemp i used acetone instead of alcohol and i get
milky precipitate similar to chloroform i´ve made it 2times and still not sure.
in the second attemp i used this :
300ml of acetone
75grs pdcb
20grs NaOh dissolved in 100ml H2o
i´ve get about 100ml milky precipitate
How can i know what´s this?may be chloroform and monochlorobenzene?
I´ve thought this:
3C6H4Cl2 + CH3COCH3 + NaOh-->CH3COONa + CHCl3 + C6H5Cl Is this correct?
Thanks!

That is a fairly improbable looking raction.
Acetone is not stable in the presence of stron bases and forms diacetone alcohol.
I guess the reaction you were hoping for was C6H4Cl2 +2 NaOH --> C6H4 (OH)2 +2NaCl
That reaction will be a bit slow.

I think i haven´t write correctly before :
I was trying to get hydroquinone from p-dcb and NaOh
I alwais dissolved the mothbals in alcohol and add NaOh solution te last time i didnt have any alcohol and dissolved them in acetone but when i added
slowly the NaOh solution.. the solution of acetone and pdcb got muddy and a oily milky and close similar to chloroform precipited. As i didn´t know
at all what happenned i decided to do an experimet. i dissolved 75grs (0.5mol)of pdcb in the smallest amunt of acetone possible(300ml)and slowly added
a solution of 20grs of NaOh(0.5mol) that is apoximate the ratio y thought for the reaction:
3C6H4Cl2 + NaOH + C6H3COCH3-->C6H5Cl + NaCOOCH3 + CHCl3
well i got about 100ml of oily milky liquid and still dont know wht it is i thinks it isnt choloroform because it didnt reactioned with 15% solution
of NaOH and have differnt odor..
well that is all, i hope somebody can help me and cold try to make the experiment too thankss!!!
