Hello all,
I'm looking to extract potassium carbonate from wood ashes. I've done the procedure before, but evaporating/drying the K2CO3 has been problematic as
the containers I have are too small or will react.
Will the potash react with an aluminum pot?

As the solution of K2CO3 is fairly strongly alkaline, due to the weak acid radical, then the solution will contain hydroxide ions( which is
responsible for the alkalinity), the potash will attack the aluminium, . but the solution being very dilute the attack may be slow, but then some
potassium aluminate will be formed, which will contaminate the potash.
Id avois the AL container, steel, glass etc will be OK.
