Sodium absorption spectra

Yes but some have so many energy levels that you can't see the gaps. This is particularly the case with solids, where the surrounding atoms and bonds can distort an atom's energy so as a whole the solid looks like it has a smooth spectrum.

what got my interest and wondering if molten liquid sodium absorbs/turns black under the lamp as well or is there a magic temperature or does it have to change phases to have this property - anyone have a clue?

I personally don't have a clue, but the video of that is quite impressive. I most certainly want to give this a shot! :)
