Now I have for my fumehood duct of 10cm pipe a plastic $20 ventilator which works fine for most experiments but not for e.g. metal melting when the
plastic cannot withstand the heat.
It has a 10cm pipe connection and vents 240m3/h (now I have 105m3/h) but is far more robust.
Or can I just buy a second hand kitchen ventilation unit which is normally mounted above the cookplate ? neptunium - 11-1-2012 at 16:33

Not
a good idea if you plan to exhaust flammable solvent vapors such as ether. If you do, you need a blower with the motor outside of the gas stream.zoombafu - 12-1-2012 at 15:03
The fan that you are looking at looks like it will do a good job. Just make sure that there are no exposed electronics. If there are that could be a
big issue, and could cause fire.
