Neutralization(s) questions

math - 5-1-2012 at 12:12

Hello,

I'd like to know which common chemicals can be used to neutralize nicotine and make it harmless (or not as toxic as it is in pure form) and also how to neutralize sodium hypochlorite into something not microbially/living tissues active.

Thank you :D

You can make salts of nicotine, if you are asking for that.
AFAIK, hypochlorite can be reduced to O2 and NaCl using hydrogen peroxide (or maybe some acid and then destroy the HClO by heating, and when it decomposes to HCl just add some NaHCO3)

Are salts of nicotine still poisonous? If they are, then I'm looking for something else, like neutralizing nicotine into something totally harmless, as opposed to pure nicotine which can get in your skin and act as a nasty poison.

Thanks for the hypochlorite answer!

the element Se (Selenium) distroy the nicotine when warmed .
adding sulfuric or HCl to bleach frees the Chlorine gas...do it outside! H2O2 bubble oxygen wich is far les harmful and a better choice
