I'm not doing very well. Help would be very appreciated.
I'm using the password "scipics".
See the screen I get in the attached picture:

You should use ftp.sciencemadness.org as address for the remote host and not www.sciencemadness.org.
Upload directory is ftp.sciencemadness.org/scipics/

Ha, ha, ha! You don't have to upload any pictures if you use the "Attachment" feature, chemoleo! The software does it for you, but not
to scipics directory. That's why I only post pictures this way! Until now that is...
It took me a while to understand your question.Tacho - 24-3-2004 at 04:16
I'm still unable to upload to /scipics.
I had an idea, lets try it:

Which is the most efficient method of having lots of pictures in your post? When I use the IMG tag, the pictures are fetched from my not so loaded
10Mbit server. Question is, are they fetched by the <i>client directly</i> or by the <i>server</i>? In case of the latter, it
would be a huge performance improvement to upload the pictures.Eliteforum - 24-3-2004 at 08:55
If you put the images on your server then they will be downloaded from your server not the sites server.axehandle - 24-3-2004 at 09:27
Yes, ofcourse, but will they first be downloaded by the sciencemadness server and THEN fed to the client, or will the client download them directly
from me? I'm trying to eliminate a bottleneck here, and am too lazy to check the generated HTML.
Edit: My goal is to spare the SM server any extra bandwidth drain.

The image will be displayed in the site yes, but they wont be loaded onto the sciencemadness server as they ain't on the server. It's just
like linking an image onto your website, you can see the image on your website, but the image is on say googles server.
If your displaying a lot of pictures your best bet is to just display them as links so people not on faster connections can view them one at a time,
not waiting for a 5mb page to download or whatever.

Jolly good. Then I'll keep them on my server. It only uses fractions of its outgoing 10Mbit connection anyway. Thanks for the information.
FTP for idiots.

OK, here goes my experience trying to upload pictures, hope it helps other people:
I started using a free software called “SentoFTP”. I could not make it work! No matter what combination of passwords, usernames, whatever!
Then I downloaded WS_FTP. I could not make it work, though I didn’t try hard. Seems like a fine software, but costs U$44,95
Then I downloaded Cute_FTP. Made it work! Very fine software, but it costs U$39,99. Well, all I need FTP for is to upload pictures to scipics, since
our wise FTP administrator denied me an account (it was well done, I was planning to be a leech, he’s psychic) and U$39,99 is too much for such
a simple application.
Yesterday I found what seems to be a very fine solution, a site that does file transfer! Its www.web2ftp.de
It’s in German, but it has a small (edit) British flag that, when you click on it, you get the site in...German!! Isn’t
that great?
Well, my limited German vocabulary allowed me to upload a picture very easily.
Sorry if this is no news for you, but, maybe, it can help someone.
BTW, if any native German speaker visit the site, please read the small print and tell me if I agreed to sell my soul or something.

Try SmartFTP - thats freeware and I believe there is even a spanish/portugese language modul available
Sorry I didnt mention this before, it is utmost the standard ftp client for these things and everybody uses it - even HERMES got it working!
Eliteforum did advise the use of this program several times, so I forgot to name it myself.
Oh - no, you didnt sell your soul, just one of your testicles.....
