Carboxylic acid reduction. Al/Hg , nickel cat.

Does anyone know if the Al/Hg reduction will work on a carboxylic acid/ mechanism behind it?

Or would a Raney nickel H2/ urushibara work on reducing it?

By mechanism I mean will it go directly to the alcohol or will the aldehyde ever be in solution in a meaningful concentration.

1999, 40, 4395-4396

Abstract
Several carboxylic acids, including N-Boo, N-Cbz and N-Fmoe amino acids were reduced to the corresponding alcohols by activation
of the carboxy function with cyanuric chloride and N-methylmorpholine followed by reduction with aqueous sodium borohydride.
