Decolorizing molasses using carbon

I was wondering if anyone could help me figure out how to decolorize molasses or corn syrup using activted carbon. I don't know if i need to heat up the syrup with the carbon in it or just let it sit or what type of carbon i should use. can anyone help me with this?

Pack a jacketted-column with slurried GAC. Pre-heat the molasses to 65-70°C (see Langmuir asdorption isotherms for GAC) and pump it through your column (rate depends on carbon size, surface area and column diameter) which is also at 65-70° (jacket). You can also run this through tandem or mixed-bed ion exchangers to de-ash and remove additional color.

If it is not heated, you will not likely be able to pump it. Even if you could, the mass-transfer limitation will kill your adsorption/exchange kinetics.
