Would one expect to see decent separation of 4-allylanisole and 1-(4-methoxyphenyl)-2-propene on a standard silica TLC place? What type of solvent
system would maximize this separation?

That is very hard to say.
I suspect that the separation would be quite small as TLC works best when there are big changes in polarity eg a carboxylic acid to an ester.
Silica is quite reactive so it may all convert in to the most stable isomer on the plate
