Got horrible blu-tack stuff in the metal mesh of my computer case, can't remove it physically, but is there any way I can remove it chemically without
damaging the steel case? Maybe some kind of plastic solvent?

Chewing gum remover should do it. See hardware store...

I would suggest light petrol as commonly sold for use in cigarette lighters, etc.
Ronsonol sell their product for use in lighters but also as a solvent in the workshop, studio, etc.
It will not dissolve the material completely but it may break it up sufficiently to make removal easy.

More blu-tack.
