Making CS2 from charcoal and sulfur ?

metalresearcher - 16-4-2011 at 13:13

More than 10 years ago I prepared some CS2 vapor when I heated powdered charcoal and sulfur in a borosilicate test tube to red heat.
In the capturing glass I saw bubbling and it smelled like what is described as a smell of CS2.
I want to do this again : heating the mixture to red hot (600-800oC hotter is not possible as the borosilicate glass then melts like plastic) and capturing it under water.

Does somebody have better ideas ?

I work in a well ventilated funehood because of the toxicity of CS2.

I sure do. Before starting a whole new thread, use the search engine.

It's quick and so easy that even lazy people can use it.

If you do, you will find existing threads like this one.
