As I write in the title I need a good amount (about 250ml) of orthodichlorobenzene to experiment the chemistry of fullerenes and I haven't been able
to find it on the NET, nor a synthesis procedure, so I ask here if someone could help me.
I found cheap chlorobenzene on warchem which could be the starting point for a synthesis but I am not in Poland and I am not even sure if it sells in
EU, but still.
Any help would be appreciated! Texium - 20-6-2023 at 12:15
Check with mario840 or chemship1978 (see their stickied threads in this sub forum). They seem to be able to supply most specialty organics at
reasonable prices.Fery - 20-6-2023 at 20:49
If you have a trip through my country I can share o-dichlorobenzene with you for free. I do not sell either send. You should provide that you do not
plane anything illegal and that you are e.g. student or preparing for chemistry olympiad or you will post your experiment on this forum or you are
helpful to other members of the forum or you have some school project or something like that (you can provide plenty of good purposes).Technetium99 - 21-6-2023 at 00:14
Texium, good idea, I'll try.
Fery, this is a kind offer, certainly I can prove that to you but I am from Italy, pretty far, anyway I will send you a PM. draculic acid69 - 23-6-2023 at 01:09
Ok here are your options:
Start looking on the Chinese website named after a Persian. Almost everything is being sold on there so 1,2dcb should be too. You'll have to buy a
kilo and endure days of pointless back and forth with a pushy salesman who will finally (usually 3rd day) give in and sell you the kilo instead of
50kg.whole process takes~2weeks from start to delivery.
Buy o-phenyldiamine and sodium nitrite and diazotize
to the dichlorobenzene.
Try going from chloro benzene and chlorine gas to the crude DCB mix of 1,2+1,4 in unknown yeilds. I think 1,4
formation is largely favoured Lionel Spanner - 24-6-2023 at 20:13

O-phenylenediamine is not easy stuff to find in Europe, other than through Laboratoriumdiscounter (who buy it through TCI.) This is probably not
helped by the fact its primary use, as a base in oxidative hair dyes, was banned quite a few years ago.
ETA: They also sell 1,2-dichlorobenzene itself, as a stock item, at €25 for 100 mL, €48 for 500 mL and €71 for 1 litre.
