Today was the day it decided to give up the ghost.
Normally I cycle it but today I let it run too long.
Plasma built up in the upper portion, heating the glass too much.
The arc stuck at the top of the electrodes and went wild against the glass. I realized something was wrong when the pulsing sound stopped.
Not even glass will stand up to continuous direct contact with a 900W plasma arc.
Now I am looking for a 6 1/4" glass container taller than 28".
Previously I bought mine at hobby lobby but they no longer carry that size .
I found one that is 6" x 32" online, but it is more expensive than I would like. I really don't want to rebuild the stand but after years of
operation, it gave up the ghost. So I may not have a choice.
A reasonably priced one at michaels is 7 x 24, which means I will need to shorten the electrodes at least 4", which will likely reduce yield.
Any suggestions for less expensive sources would be great.
ps. This is using a 15kv, 60ma franceformer, obviously without GFCI. And it produces about 6g/hour with a chilled collection flask.
NO2 is a liquid when chilled, which drastically improves yield.
