Well, that's it. Thought it was a nice idea to finally have a thread that lists all the websites from SM members.
Only those are listed whose links function (there were a lot of dead links to sort out first).
I will make updates now and then, currently those are 77 websites of 2795 members. (+ the ones listed in this
thread)
If you want to have your link changed to something else, or add one as you have just uploaded your new site, or have
it deleted, just send me a U2U.
This is a great opportunity to get your google rating up, in the unlikely event you'd want this
Many thanks go to Rogue Chemist and Axt, for making this fantastic improvement in making an HTML table with ratings. I am happily replacing the
original text-version.
I don't get it. Whats the point of your patent server link???
What does it have to do with member websites? Remember that's what this post was about!!Polverone - 13-3-2004 at 19:48
I think that's his website.chemoleo - 13-3-2004 at 20:03
Yah I think you are right, on second thought.
I have added it to the list above.
I guess it makes sense to post a new message to notify the forum of his/her new website. Otherwise it's unlikely to be noticed, and after all
this is what a website is about - that people have a look at it, and that it is noticed.
Therefore I think it makes sense that a member with a new website posts it right here, to be firstly noticed by other members, and
to be added to the list above.
Fair enough?
[Edited on 14-3-2004 by chemoleo]axehandle - 14-3-2004 at 03:25
I just went through the list, and it seems I'm the only one running my own webserver, at home. Yes!Mumbles - 23-4-2005 at 18:07
Just FYI, Andyboy's site is down. I didn't even know he was a member here. He took it down back in november when he quit pyro and amature
chemistry.
I'm kind of suprised that Thugsta's page is still up. I would have though he, or the FBI, would have taken it down after his little
accident.
Anyway, I'll give a link to mine. I try to update on a semi-regular interval, but it hasn't been happening. I've been mainly into
pyro lately, but there are some chem experiments I have up my sleeve.
I thought Andyboy just quit the online boards? He posted a while ago in Frogfot's guestbook saying how well something worked, so I do not think
he has quit completly.Mumbles - 25-4-2005 at 17:52
From what I have heard from him, and several people close to him is that he was completely done with pyro and amature chemistry. This was at the time
being at least, about six months ago. He got rid of all his chems. This action tells me he got out of it. Perhaps he is back into the hobby, but I
haven't heard from him about this.
He posted over at a pyro related forum I am a member of just to say hi about a month ago. He said all was well, and he has his second child on the
way. His first child, and some legal threats from his then current girlfriend/fiance, was the main reason he quit from what I understand.
Major Update!
chemoleo - 15-5-2005 at 18:57
At last I got round to making an update of all the websites!
From previously 40 websites, there are now 77!!
Check them out, some are really good!
Again, if you want to change/add/delete one, let me know via U2U.
I did not select for content, except where sites were a) pornrelated (sorry, that's the wrong forum for that , b) 404 error c) with language/lettering that I couldnt assign to any language I
know, with seemingly garbage content. Let me know if you discover non-functional links.
In other words, 98% is there, including a few irrelevant ones, but that's for you to select, not me!
Happy surfing!

You've forgotten lambdasyn.tk, although I advertise it with me sig in every post I made.
Maybe my sig isn't noticeable enough. Mmmh... what's the biggest font size here? No, wait maybe I should make an animated GIF for my
signature. A stroboscopic one of course.
~Mephistochemoleo - 26-5-2005 at 05:49
Just to let ya know, this thread is now nicely viewable again (thx to those who pointed out the problem), with normal download times. It seems it was
the font change that caused this (thx Polv.)
PS I am still wondering if anyone knows about HTML tables. I can't seem to get it to work. Any suggestions/examples pls post here!
[Edited on 26-5-2005 by chemoleo]12AX7 - 26-5-2005 at 05:58
I don't know much about tables, but it sounds like any will help, so..
This is a very risky project and I advice against making the compound. But this is how you make it.
The three ingredients are sulfuric acid, gylcerine and nitric acid. /.../
Measure 100 ml nitric acid, 70 ml Glycerol, 80 ml sulfuric acid. Mix them all. Stir for half an hour. There should now be an oily layer on top of the
mix. This is nitroglycerine.
Just a few weeks ago three 15 year old boys almost got themselves killed playing with explosives here in Sweden and isn't this procedure
described by psychopatics utterly dangerous? I would guess mixing the everything together would make a runaway reaction and possibly an explosion.
Correct me if I'm wrong.
My point: either psychopatich should revise this procedure or we shouldn't link to the site. It's just evil and it could kill someone.neutrino - 17-6-2005 at 02:20
Why was the NG on a hotplate?
I agree, remove this ACB garbage.Polverone - 17-6-2005 at 10:46
It looks like a combination hotplate/stirrer used for its stirring ability. Notice that the temperature knob is turned all the way down while the
stirring knob is way up. I'm not going to remove links to external sites for reasons other than spamming.kbk666 - 6-7-2005 at 05:11
Please update my entry - it now has on-topic content.
TimThe_Davster - 27-9-2005 at 19:50
Chemoleo, to the list I would like to propose an addition of a rating/content system for the links, something such as:
Class # content
1 Chem
2 Energetics/pyrotechnics
3 Unrelated to anything on Sciencemadness
4 Under construction(nothing currently existant)
5 Idiotic kewl site
Of course there can be combinations of the above numbers.
There are examples of all of the above in your list. Nothing annoys me more when browsing for interesting chemistry, I stumble upon a 'make
napalm with gas and styrofoam' type page.
What do you think? I would be willing to do the work if you are busy.

I am just joining the masses, it's still under construction tho! So as yet not alot interesting on there, cept for a link to here of course!!!
I sometimes wonder about some sites i find! They make you think..."How come they are still there!???"
Especially if they demonstrate a kitchen-table (not to mention, very very very freakin' dangerous) way of making Nitro!!!!
Its just plain stoooopid!!!
Website Updated!!!

LambdaSyn becomes a .com-site now. It was exactly the right time, as the dot.tk-service overdid it with its advertisements and added an additional
advertising bar to every free .tk-site.
And I'm especially happy to be finally able to make right refers to sub-documents on the site (like http://www.lambdasyn.com/synfiles/nikotin.htm), because this wasn't possible with the .tk-frame-site. Now nothing hinders the project from
growing!

Great Site!
chemoleo - 22-10-2005 at 19:27
Mephisto, this is a truly fantastic site.
I really wonder how much work you must have put in, it looks like many thousands of man-hours.
Particularly I like that you did some of your own syntheses demonstrating the reality of the reaction, rather than just dry text book examples.
Well done seriously, I am almost jealous! ;-)
Also, rogue_chemist, you wanted to set something up, and I U2U'd you about it. Any progress?
I thought some sort of rating system for websites might be very useful. Nonetheless hard to implement. Let me know.

It is progressing, I am just currently very busy with uni(midterms the last few weeks). The content is nearly done, however, the html is still
messing with the board appearance.Mephisto - 23-10-2005 at 03:13

I'm very glad to hear this from you, chemoleo. As I really enjoy the work on the project, I didn't count the hours :-). However, I just
know, that I won't stop improving LambdaSyn. The only sad thing is, that I almost don't have the necessary prerequisites to perform the
photographic documented syntheses at home anymore. Therefore I hope more of this excellent experimenters around (like garage chemist for example) will
take advantage of LambdaSyn to publish their own results on the site. For now this is only possible by sending in texts and photos by mail. But
another member of LambdaSyn is currently working on a great idea to simplify the possibility for amateur scientists to publish on our site. I'm
very excited for the results of this process.
New table design is up(see Chemoleo's first post), Axt showed me the HTML I needed, and I just did a few hours(spread over almost a year...) of copy
and paste adnauseum. Thanks again Axt!

As far as content type, it would be Chemistry and Other. The link above is to the chemistry part.
My webhost (HostGator) was recently hacked, very maliciously
pantone159 - 25-9-2006 at 21:32
The webhost that I use (HostGator), and thus my website, was recently the victim of an extremely dangerous hack.
Specifically, from around Thu 21 Sep 2006 to 9 pm CT Fri 22 Sep (when I shut my site down), Internet Explorer visitors were not being fed the correct
HTML data, but instead corrupted data that included a link to a malicious website that took advantage of a new [zero-day] IE exploit to crap all over
people's machines.
At least one of my visitors, who I had enlisted to confirm that it was the website that had issues (as opposed to my local machine), was infected with
viruses, pop-ups, and God knows what else.
I noticed that two visitors came to look at my element photos, early (2-3 am Central USA time) on Thu. In case those are some people from here, you
should be watchful for problems on your machines. The hack may not have started that early, but I currently do not know.
My stuff is down until I am sure that my pages will be served as I entered them, which might be a while.
This is apparently a problem in the 'cPanel' configuration software on servers. A flaw allowed someone with access to a local account (either a real
account or one hacked into) to root the server, and install malicious web server software. Although only HostGator is confirmed to have been
attacked, other hosts are likely vulnerable to this.
Most of the virus/spyware/who-knows crap seems to be new and not yet detected by most scanners.
Note that there are 3 new exploits involved in this:
1 - New exploit in cPanel on servers allowing root access
2 - New exploit in IE allowing arbitrary code execution
3 - New spyware/viruses that are not yet caught by scanners
It's going to be mainly a chemistry website, but for now, I'm writing the mathematical content, which is far from being finished ( then I'll go on
with physics, and then chemistry ). During this hollyday, I had time to work on it, but unfortunately, I can't add anything on my website as my uni is
closed until next week ( hurts to see my Fourier page being so terrible for now ) ... Expect a bunch of new stuff within two weeks.Jor - 13-3-2008 at 14:27

I am finishing up on a little website design project I sort of fell into... In doing so, I decided to try and write a better library front page for
chemistry articles/ebooks/textbooks as I am sick to death of what is available online at the moment.
That said - I really cannot host it here (such might contain "instructions" according to the local Gestapo and land me in a world of hurt).
I'm more than happy to contribute articles, to help with coding etc. but I cannot host it here without potentially becoming a "criminal"
That front end should be compatible with any web host (minimal jscript - no php - all html/.css) It will take a labor of love, but in terms of front
ends - that one should set the standard for others to follow.Sedit - 25-4-2009 at 15:08
A library of some of the files that I have gathered over the years. Its still fairly new and much work is being done on it but its progressing nicely

Very useful.
Is it me or is it fully operational yet ( did you test it with firefox ) ?
I am experiencing some problems for example that some buttons arn't working properlySedit - 26-4-2009 at 08:05
Na I personaly havent run firefox on it just IE 7.0. So one said they where having problems with links directly below org chemistry on the menu but
every thing worked fine for me so I dont know yet. Its gonna be a matter of cooperation between a few other people so it should get up and going
correctly soon enough. Where where you having issues at if you dont mind. What page where you on and what link was broke? Its still a work in progress
and was designed in a matter of hours so bear with me as I work out the kinks.
[Edited on 26-4-2009 by Sedit]Nicodem - 26-4-2009 at 11:14
Your site has a lot of ebooks, other stuff and three nice gold fishes, but the links to the sections simply do not work in Firefox v3.0.8 (Win XP). I
checked with Inernet Explorer 6 and there they do work, but I suggest you fix that. It would not hurt to use normal HTML code for those links, instead
of some script stuff. Since the advent of IE 7 (may god help those that have the Windows automatic update switched on!) many users switched over to
Firefox because for some mysterious reason Microsoft made the new version of IE almost useless for a large part of internet places.Sedit - 26-4-2009 at 11:24
Thank you Nicodem Ill have to check into it. It is normal, basic HTML code, thats why Im quite suprised that there is problems with other browsers.
The links are written into the code like this, http://www.thevespiary.org/sedit/Chemistry%20-%20Organic/Org... so that I could later add a search function with greater ease but nothing else
strays from the norm at all so Im going to have to DL firefox and see what I can do about it.
Also I have many more files that are going to be uploaded on a daily basis so bear with me as I work on this. Eventially Im going to add a page for my
personal experiments and such but first things first I want to get the ground work all smoothed out first.
[EDIT]
OK so... I killed the fish because there maybe some internal conflit with the active X controler Im not sure. But someone told me that the problem
never came about until the fish cameSo off they go until I can resolve the
problem, if that is indeed it. I downloaded firefox 3.0 and had no problem at all with it from my end but I also dont have active X installed to work
with firefox either so this should remedy the problem.
If there is still issues don't be afraid to drop me a line here or the PM and let me know what you think.

Ah well its a programmers burden
Man i really enjoyed the fish. Sedit - 27-4-2009 at 07:41
Arggg...
Even with the fish gone theres still problems?
I thought I had all the bugs worked out before I posted the link here but I guess not. If anyone has further problems please send it to my PM if you
can. I dont want to high jack this threed with a list of the problems on mysite.
Ill see what I can do but from what i can tell there are so many customised versions of firefox floating around I could not test them all myself.barbs09 - 28-4-2009 at 01:07
Hi Sedit, Good diverse range of documents there! Just one question while we are on the topic of website issues Of the 4 PDF documents I tried to downloaded only one of them worked. The other three gave me the following error
message:
“There was an error opening this document. The file was damaged and could not be repaired”.
Is this a problem at your end or my end?
Two of the documents that showed errors for me are:
The Laboratory Companion (A Practical Guide to Materials, Equipment & Techniques 1997) By Gary S Coyne &
How to make and use a Small Chemistry Lab (Yates)
To download them I right clicked and saved target
I look forward to browsing your site in the future.
Cheers AB Sedit - 28-4-2009 at 10:51
I honestly don't know where the problem is but I feel since they are large files they maybe on the recievers end. If the download of the file is
interupted in anyway they you will be choped and not read properly. Since no matter which browser I use on my end things work smoothly Im having
trouble Identifying the source of any problems. I anticipated this problem when designing it hence the reason I stated some may need to right click
and download the file manually.
I will send you a PM if you dont mind to try and gather some system information from you to help me locate the issue. My service runs at a steady
700kbs and many times 1.2Mbs so connection issues are not a problem over here.barbs09 - 28-4-2009 at 14:44
Hi Sedit, I would imagine the problem is at my end considering I am on dialup!! I think we can consider the issue solved I don't know what a PM is, but if it checks for issues then I think it would have a
fieldday on my connection. I will have another go when I head into the big smoke in a few days time. Thanks kindly, ABSedit - 28-4-2009 at 18:32
Look in the upper right hand corner of this site and you will see where it says you have one new message. PM= Private message.Formula409 - 3-10-2009 at 07:16
Apologies for butting into what is quite an organised thread but I would just like to remind users of geocities that your sites will no longer exist
after late October. I am offering free web hosting without advertisements or restrictions for all sciencemadness users, so if you would like your
website mirrors on what, arguably would be a better host than geocities, throw me a U2U!
I will be going through all the posted geocities websites and downloading them before the closure, however I would like to have both the author's
permission and a version of the site without those damn annoying pop-ups, etc!

Once again copywrite issues took hold and to attempt to prevent further blackouts I regret to announce my site is down for the time being and is being
PW protected until I can find a means to stop further blackouts since everytime they find a copywrited book the entire Vespiary dies for a few hour
until we remove the offending material. I may just resort to giving out the PW to trust worthy sources.JohnWW - 3-6-2010 at 18:04
Well, that sucks! Who is doing it, using a stolen password to your site? The Copyright Gestapo?Sedit - 3-6-2010 at 18:07
Naa, When I added an internal search engine to my site I had to remove the "Robot.txt" heading for a bit allowing google to index it. Then as that
happened it allowed the personal Copywrite Gestapo of each book to view the contents of my site. Now google still have the index and as other sites
link to mine its getting a higher and higher rating.
Im considering changing the address to block it once again from Google and sadly giving up my internal search engine rights.Doktor Klawonn - 20-11-2010 at 05:59

Sure. I haven't really thought about exactly how that would work, but if you want to, I don't see why not. If you can't find a reference for one of
your own experiments, I don't see how that would be a huge problem, although others may think differently.Zyklon-A - 15-6-2014 at 16:30

This wiki is user driven, so I'm all for posting experiments and results. I'm just not sure how we would organize them. Post whatever you feel is
necessary.
