Electrolytic silver nitrate

I am looking for a way to make silver nitrate from silver metal without nitric acid. I don't know anything about electrochemistry but this sounded like something that an electrolytic cell could potentially do. I don't have anything other than a silver electrode, variable power supply, potassium nitrate, and probably some other things I could get together. Does this sound possible?

use ion exchange electrolysis.
membrane made from cation exchange resin and add sodium nitrate or any nitrate salt to the anode chamber and use silver anode and any counter electrode in cathode side chamber.
The membrane can be impregnated with any salt that can precipitate silver so the silver ions wont pass through.
