Synthesis of N,N'-dialkyloxamides

Bedlasky - 10-1-2021 at 11:25

I successfully prepared N,N'-dicyclohexyloxamide, N,N'-dicyclopentyloxamide and N,N'-dibenzyloxamide from corresponding amines and diethyl oxalate. Synthesis is quite easy and you can do it just with basic lab equipment in high yields. Reaction doesn't proceed with sterically hindered amines, such as tert-butylamine. Aromatic amines like aniline also doesn't give a reaction. I tried both these amines without result.

Write up is on my website in czech/english

Good work Bedlasky. Are you going to store these compounds if you use them in a future project?

Thanks. I don't have use for them, I just wanted to try this reaction.

Congrats for the preparations!

Actually they are the first reported successful "ester aminolysis" reactions on SM as far as I know. :-)
