Cation-exchange resin for perchloric acid

RustyShackleford - 30-12-2020 at 15:36

Has anyone tried preparing perchloric acid by passing alkali perchlorate through cation exchange resin?
Seems like it would work, and as long as youre using lower conc of the salt (4-5% ? ) it shouldnt be too hazardous.

I calculated that you would need 20ml of "2 equivalent/L" resin to produce 100ml of 4% perchloric acid, but youd likely want to double the amount of resin for practicality.

Where did you get your knowledge on ion exchange resins? I'm interested in using them too, and I'm still looking for am introductory manual. (I earlier asked about ion exchange resins here.)
