Electrolytic iron powder, Carbonyl iron powder and regular iron powder
Even if they are equally pure, they have different capacity to reduce nitroalkene to ketone. Why is that, I can't figure out even after an hour
Googling.
The carbonyl iron powder has, without a doubt, better reducing capacity per Mol eq than electrolytically manufactured or regular very pure iron powder
(Fischer, +99.9% purity). Why is that? I don't understand what difference their actions are in chemistry.
And is it same with zinc reductions, is the shape / type of particles of the metal relevant to the reducing capacity of the zinc?

Probably the specific surface. Nickel and iron made by decomposition of their carbonyl compounds are very, very pure and fine, with a huge area where
the reaction can take place.

surface area, assuming everything else is equal. Its the same with zinc and any metals that work by similar mechanism

inert atmosphere handling. for reduction just ballmill steel swarf from machining shop.
