Depends what you want to do with it, but chlorine dissolves well in most nonpolar solvents. However, it will react in the presence of UV light with
toluene and xylene, and probably other solvents as well. I would assume alkanes and DCM/chloroform would be good solvents for chlorine, but you
should probably choose a solvent based on what you want to react the chlorine with.

thanks , this is for preparation of SnCl4 and TiCl4 _ check my other post about TiI4 SnI4 , the solvent i use is chloroform!

ChCL3 ought to be fine for the reaction however if it is your intent to recover the ChCl3 protect for med. to strong uv to impead CCl4 formation.

DCM works well, but keep it away from light unless you want to randomly chlorinate everything. I have good evidence (GC-MS, tetrachloroethylene) that
Cl will react photochemically with DCM to give dichlorocarbene and, I suppose, ultimately, 2HCl.
