This is chemistry forum, we shouldn't mix things up as it just makes it harder.
Matter of politics is very delicate and some people can't resist to go into discussion and often argument about it.
I have seen many of these situations and it's not this trivial.

Why does that matter? The whole world seems to be rushing to not offend the great offender (China).
Our friend is from HK... it is understandable he would have a strong opinion and view of a country trying to oppress his freedom... wait not trying...
actually oppressing. We should cut him slack. Lots of it.

MineMan: Dude's signature was really intense. I guess if he had just said "Free Hong Kong" we might have all looked the other way. We work with
dangerous things here, so combativeness in political discussion has the potential to get somebody hurt. We might not catch every single political
comment that gets made but that doesn't mean we shouldn't be keeping a lid on things.
