Today I visited Science Essentials in Brisbane and got the following:
- Titanium foil
- Mercuric Iodide
- Lead powder
- Sodium borohydride
- Cadmium turnings
- Gadolinium (iii) nitrate - a few gram as a freebie
- Dichloromethane
- Some lab quality Toluene as a freebie
- Some small beakers and round bottom flasks
- U tube with side arms
Peter Kozionas is keen to support hobby chemists, he prefers a meet up to discuss the requirements and reason for purchase and so on. His Australian
mobile number is 0438 383 180.
By the way, they have quite a bit of older stock which they are letting go at reasonable prices (I think). They have a few bottles of Lithium metal to
go and also an oversupply of Ammonium dichromate. draculic acid69 - 26-11-2019 at 21:19
How much was the sodium borohydride? I'd be happy to buy some from him if the price is reasonable.Lion850 - 26-11-2019 at 21:59
if I remember correctly it was A$30 for 50gram. I think this was quite old stock but I wanted only a small quantity. By the way he showed me the
Lithium that was going for $50 I should have taken it as it was quite a bit. draculic acid69 - 27-11-2019 at 05:42
How much lithium was there? nzlostpass - 28-11-2019 at 00:26
Shame im over the ditch....I have been looking for some Amminium Dichromate and Sodium Borohydride.j_sum1 - 28-11-2019 at 00:51
I exchanged some texts with peter. I think his prices may be higher than my current suppliers. But the convenience of pick-up may be nice.Lion850 - 28-11-2019 at 01:04
Note that he told me he is not that good on text, keep in mind if delay in response the may be better to call. j_sum1 - 28-11-2019 at 02:55
I don't think we can blame texting ability here. The price quoted for 500g of ammonium dichromate is double that of auschems, which is enough
difference to cover shipping. He does have calcium carbide though which is a good thing.
As always, worth comparing prices. But also worth supporting local businesses that we want to stick around.vibbzlab - 28-11-2019 at 05:34
I'm just happy that chemicals are pretty cheap and easily available to me here in India. Chemical sellers don't even ask and they give me all
chemicals . I even got arsenic trioxide and all acids G-Coupled - 28-11-2019 at 07:06

lol, and there's your upside, my friend.
What are pharmacies like in India - do they sell Diethyl Ether and Chloroform like the ones in Turkey apparently do? G-Coupled - 28-11-2019 at 07:09

Try making the guy an offer, maybe? If it's old stock, and he's not up with current pricing, he might well be very amenable to bringing his prices in
line with other local suppliers. vibbzlab - 28-11-2019 at 07:35
Nope but I can easily get them from a chemicals shop without any license or any checking.
Just run into a shop
Tell them I need Chloroform
They ask you how much
We say the required information
They give us the item
We pay money and just take it
This is literally the thing for every chemical.
Even red phosphorus antimony trichloride
Mercury salts
Acid
Oxidisers
Organic compounds including ether benzoyl Chloride aniline phenol etc etc everything is cheap.
But only problem is with good lab gears.
First of all we don't get good apparatus. Secondly they are costly.
It's like we do experiment in kitchen glassware here.literally even beakers cost higher than 500g arsenic trioxide do.

Can't you just order cheap Chinese glassware like everyone else seems to be doing these days? I just got last week a perfectly serviceable set of 5
'Borosilicate 3.1' glass beakers in sizes 5ml-125ml for around 8 EUR delivered from an in country supplier, they came in like 2 days. vibbzlab - 28-11-2019 at 07:50
Yes I am planning to upgrade my lab in few monthsm I have made a list of things to buy ,
Also a new mic and recorder for my videos tooLion850 - 4-12-2019 at 18:50
Sorry only saw this question now. He had a small jar with Lithium in a flat strip rolled up under argon (I think it is quite old but looked ok, same
as one gets from a battery just lots more) but I already went and bought this
He also showed me a large glass jar with what looked like solid bars of Lithium, but I did not ask the weight or how much.
