They look pretty good, but can you find KNO3 locally? In the US it is available as stump remover in 1lb bottles for around $5.00.metalresearcher - 4-1-2011 at 12:57
Most US sellers don't ship to Western Europe. ScienceSquirrel - 4-1-2011 at 13:02
Potassium nitrate is readily available as stump remover, as a fertiliser boost for tomatoes, for hydroponics and lots more.
It is very easily recrystallised in very characteristic needles to test purity.
It is arguable that the ease of crystallisation of potassium nitrate was seminal in the development of gunpowder as the first explosive.ScienceSquirrel - 4-1-2011 at 13:06
They look sane to me. metalresearcher - 4-1-2011 at 13:33
@ScienceSquirrel:
Thanks, I just ordered a kilo there. Contrabasso - 5-1-2011 at 10:20
I have several sources in the UK, should I ever want any! there are also sources in The Netherlands and Poland to my knowledge though I have no
experience of trading with these. Some people will only sell by the sack, others will send 100g if you ask. Most USA based suppliers will not ship
materials abroad.grndpndr - 12-1-2011 at 23:28
Given the political Climate I wouldnt be to eager to sell simple fertilizer marked with the dreaded oxidizer label
In the land of the free let alone OS.
Moneys awful good if you think about it.Repackaging a $60/50lb bag of crystaline KNO3 selling it at $25/5lbs is a moneymaker.Assuming the shipping
arrangements are legit?
Can anyone tell me why a guy can buy nitrate of soda in 4lb sacks for 6-8$ and about the same in shipping if its 1 or 4 sacks while KNO3 with less 02
gets socked with hazmat?
Ive had Nitrate of soda good from the sack and other brands
HY being one is almost 1/3 clay? I just dont savvy the shipping cunundrum. FWIWhissingnoise - 13-1-2011 at 07:57
So grndpndr, you could buy cheap, fertiliser-grade KCl and do a metathesis with NaNO3 to get KNO3!

IF I had the need HSMy only observation was the shipping
confusion/regulations?!Or Lack thereof. Not that Im complaining unless I was on the wrong end of a postal investigation.
Thats in the US which I think Is a bit more lax concerning at least certain oxidizers that which folks insist on for 'indoor' gardening,#1 cash
crop.KNO3 so far,NaNO3 which seems harder to find in quantitys of 50# fertilizer grade.Chilean nitrate seems no more only the small bags 4-5lbs of
Nitrate of soda w/o hazmat and larger tech grade #25-50lb buckets/sacks which wiegh an additional $30 hazmat plus UPS shipping and are named as gold
refining materials etc.Of course even finding
NaNO3 4-5 lb sacks of fert in local stores is rare,Im sure the stump remover will be soon as well.Blizzard of availability /regs?!
