Benzyl Alcohol > Benzaldehyde ?

ArcChem - 5-5-2019 at 02:45

I know there has probably been a few references but i'm wondering which method is the easiest for this conversion ?

I've read up on a few including using hydrogen peroxide which seemed to produce good yields and also seen some use hypochlorite.

Assume i'd also have to run this all under an inert atmosphere ?

Worst case scenario I could get a few KG of apricot kernel's and run a steam distillation but not sure of the yield's / time consuming.

There's already a topic for benzyl alcohol oxidation to Benzaldehyde in this Blog.

I remember I was in favor of the partial oxidation of benzyl alcohol to benzaldehyde with calcium hypochlorite and tert butil amonium bromide as a phase transfer catalyst and also brought a study attached. You may find it here:

Although, a lot of other Science madness members have proposed other ways to do this oxidation like @Melgar, @Magpie, etc.

Follow the link a gave above and read all the thread ok? I'm sure it will be very interesting for your research!
