How to make diphenyl sulfide?

jonco - 23-11-2010 at 15:50

Does anyone know how to make diphenyl sulfide using readily available chemicals? Or where to obtain it?

Thanks

Check this out, it looks like it might provide some insight for you:

I found this using the search engine on the upper left-hand side of the page.

Another route can be found here:

The first method will not work to make diphenyl sulphide as it relies on the nitro group to activate the ring to nucleophilic attack.
Plain old chlorobenzene will just sit there and smile at you!
The second method will work for diphenyl sulphide.

The point was to demonstrate the search engine.

Fair enough.
I thought that I would point out that the first reaction is not generally applicable but is a group of special cases.
