As the title suggest, I'm looking for a procedure on how to make phenol from phenolphthalein. I couldn't find anything, suggestions? Would an acid or
base hydrolisis work?

Why would you want to use phenolphthalein to make phenol? Aren't there cheaper chemicals (like salicylic acid) to start with?CharlieA - 24-1-2019 at 17:58

I'm not in it for the yield or the price, it would just be a fun reaction tk do, I already decarboxylated salysilic acid somr time ago.unionised - 25-1-2019 at 10:03
Doing an experiment just for the fun of it is just as good a reason as any other. I guess, in a way, it's kind of a reverse engineering problem, like
taking something apart to figure out how it works. Good luck and please post your results.

I don't know any rxns that can break Ar-C bonds. If someone know these I'd like to hear about them.
