I was wondering If ethylamine could be prepared by condensing ammonium chloride with ethanol similar to the preparation of methylamineMumbles - 19-1-2004 at 17:21
It's possible I suppose. All the proceedures I've seen involve ammonia solution or bubbling ammonia gas into ethanol.
There's only one way to find out, I am assuming you searched very well. Try it out.
That is a synthesis of Diethylamine, but Ethylamine is an isolated intermediate. Method two is probably the easier of the two.guaguanco - 19-1-2004 at 18:35

??
I have seen syntheses of methylamine involving things like formaldehyde or hexamine. I've never seen a synthesis just using methanol and
ammonium chloride. This would be news to me.
