Just received my order from eBay seller terminal.route-8: Beryllium Metal 5g Machined Rod, 99.9+%. For the record, this is a nice little sample for
anyone interested in beryllium. Paid 23 bucks for 2.765 ml x 1.85 g/ml ~= 5.1g of the metal. I don't have calipers or a scale at home but I can tell
it's the right size and weight. The cylinder also has a slightly beveled edge to mitigate any fears of dying a slow painful death from Be dust.
I can't vouch for it being 99.9% pure but I don't care that much, As for the possibility of it being a hollow cylinder of aluminum or magnesium, I can
either measure the moment of inertia, pay 25 bucks for XRF, or pull out the ol' dental x-ray unit. Right now I'm gravitating toward option 1, but need
ideas for a quick 'n' easy setup that doesn't require major time investment.
