I checked the chemical purifications manual for the compound cyclopentyl methyl ether CAS# 5614-37-9 for a technique to dry it. I plan on distilling
it off of something like CaH2 but wasnt going to do it without seeing if anyone knew if this was a bad idea or knew the correct way to dry the
aforementioned compound.

I expect using sodium, sodium amalgam, NaK etc would be suited for drying it. I don't see why CaH2 couldn't be used though.

We're going to use sodium. It should be fine but if its catastrophic I won't be here to tell you

I don't see it should be a problem, I use sodium foil for drying ethers, usually over night. CPME is a recommended alternative to diethyl ether and
THF (according to sigmaaldrich) as it does not form peroxides so easily. As such I expect a drying with the likes of sodium should work a treat
